Second Chance

They say life gives you second chances. Well, sometimes it does.

It was a long day, and the last person I expected to see was her. I fumbled my keys out of my pocket and entered, and there she was, sitting on my couch and using my laptop. I remembered giving her a key some time back, but she had never popped in on me like this since the day we separated. And there she was, sitting on my couch, and browsing through my mail as if nothing had ever happened. I was making mental note to use a password for my laptop, as she asked “Who is Seetha?” pointing at my screen. I walked away towards the refrigerator saying, “work friend… Why? You thought I was seeing someone?”. I looked at her again as she smiled, she had not aged a day since we split. “No, you are still in love with me!” she said with her playful giggle. And suddenly, all the reasons why I had fallen in love with her came back to me. “Drink?” I asked her opening a bottle of rum. She did not respond, so I poured myself a glass. She did that sometimes, pretending not to hear me, although I could never understand why. “Why are you here?” I asked, pulling a chair opposite the couch. She gave me one of her sharp looks and started looking at the laptop screen again. “I was thinking about you. I have been thinking about you” she said. I downed my drink and stared at her, “Why did you leave me then?” I asked. She looked at my glass, straining her forehead and said, “It was inevitable. You were so busy being a cop that you barely had time for me”. I got the feeling that this was going to descend into another fight, just like the one we had the day before we split. “I would have done anything for you, but you still left me” I said. She leaned forward and said “Seriously! Anything?” as I nodded my head. “I would do anything” I repeated. “What about now? Will you do anything now? Will you leave your pointless life in this godforsaken place and come with me?” she asked, a tear falling from her eye. I got up and sat beside her, and said “Why wouldn’t I. You are the love of my life”, trying very hard to supress the multitude of emotions encompassing me. “You didn’t come to me all these days. I came to you. Why should today be any different?” she cried. I got up and turned towards her and said “because, this time I am serious. I have decided to go wherever you go. ” as I took my gun from my holster, pointed it to my head and pulled the trigger.

A Bore

Writing to me, is unpredictable. A good writer knows what he wants write. A great writer just wants to write. Not long ago I thought myself to be a great writer. I always believed my writing to be a seamless synchronization of thoughts and words. So I read through my own blog again to confirm my beliefs. I have not written much here, but the more I read through, the more it felt like my writing was a trade off, rather than a synchronization. It didn't take me long to realize that I am boring.

However, things have changed. Starting today, I promise not to be boring anymore.

Wait for it...

Alcohol

Music is overrated.

At least thats what I thought until now.

The effect of music on the human mind is a much thought about and talked about subject. While I have nothing new to add to it, I would like to pen down some of my experiences with music over the past week.

If you are from tamil nadu then the word music is usually associated with two men. Ilayaraja and ARR.

Until the past week, not an evening passed without me having a listen of either of the two and sometimes even both. But this week was different. Suddenly for no particular reason the practice stopped.

It did not take me long to discover that something was missing. While I could not put my finger on it, the void was getting bigger and bigger every day. By the time I figured out the missing link my evenings had become longer and drearier. But even when I realized what it was and tried to get back on schedule, the evenings continued to be uninspiring.

But then I figured out the solution. To be frank it was more of a coincidence than a usage of my grey matter. It happened when I chose the wrong playlist by mistake and had to listen to Bruce Dickinson's rendition of “Brave New World”. Things suddenly began to change. The evening suddenly burst into life. Things started to fall into place.

I was saved. My evenings were saved. It was not long before I fell back to my old practice of listening to the Tamil music Giants. But I will also not forget Iron Maiden which brought me back on track. While ARR and Ilayaraja were my food and water, Iron Maiden was my drug. It was my Alcohol.

Darkness

This is a story which in my mind, forever made a mark

When one night I took a wrong turn into the dark,

I walked on oblivious, whistling a mild tone

Not knowing what I had done until I tripped on a stone,

And I hit the ground unable to break my fall,

Into a dark wilderness that made me feel small

Not a thing I could see as silence filled the ground

Oh, what I would have given to hear a single sound

For help, I cried out loud with echoes that would linger

I shouted and screamed my throat dry, in fear not in anger

In this dark world, was there at all a sun?

East or west or north or south, I didn’t know where to run

Oh, what place was this, that gods would fear to enter

I tripped on graves as I ran left right and center

Out of breath and tiring, I could not run anymore

I looked up to the sky and saw no stars, as through me the wind tore

Giving up every inch of hope, under a lone tree I sat to rest

If only had I known what was coming next

The force of the wind made me turn and then I saw her

Dressed in a pale white robe, her hand holding a dagger

As the blood drained from my face, out of fear I froze

I could not feel my heart beating as the land sucked in my toes

Slowly she ambled towards me, as down came the rain

My senses blanked me as I shut my eyes for the pain

Suddenly I heard a sound, the sound of a laughing child

The sound aroused my senses as I opened my eyes and smiled

They say I lost my senses when I tripped on a stone and fell

Never will they believe, any story that I offer to tell.

PS- This poem is inspired by the songs of my favorite band Iron Maiden.. Up the irons…
