Darkness

This is a story which in my mind, forever made a mark

When one night I took a wrong turn into the dark,

I walked on oblivious, whistling a mild tone

Not knowing what I had done until I tripped on a stone,

And I hit the ground unable to break my fall,

Into a dark wilderness that made me feel small

Not a thing I could see as silence filled the ground

Oh, what I would have given to hear a single sound

For help, I cried out loud with echoes that would linger

I shouted and screamed my throat dry, in fear not in anger

In this dark world, was there at all a sun?

East or west or north or south, I didn’t know where to run

Oh, what place was this, that gods would fear to enter

I tripped on graves as I ran left right and center

Out of breath and tiring, I could not run anymore

I looked up to the sky and saw no stars, as through me the wind tore

Giving up every inch of hope, under a lone tree I sat to rest

If only had I known what was coming next

The force of the wind made me turn and then I saw her

Dressed in a pale white robe, her hand holding a dagger

As the blood drained from my face, out of fear I froze

I could not feel my heart beating as the land sucked in my toes

Slowly she ambled towards me, as down came the rain

My senses blanked me as I shut my eyes for the pain

Suddenly I heard a sound, the sound of a laughing child

The sound aroused my senses as I opened my eyes and smiled

They say I lost my senses when I tripped on a stone and fell

Never will they believe, any story that I offer to tell.
