Alcohol

Music is overrated.

At least thats what I thought until now.

The effect of music on the human mind is a much thought about and talked about subject. While I have nothing new to add to it, I would like to pen down some of my experiences with music over the past week.

If you are from tamil nadu then the word music is usually associated with two men. Ilayaraja and ARR.

Until the past week, not an evening passed without me having a listen of either of the two and sometimes even both. But this week was different. Suddenly for no particular reason the practice stopped.

It did not take me long to discover that something was missing. While I could not put my finger on it, the void was getting bigger and bigger every day. By the time I figured out the missing link my evenings had become longer and drearier. But even when I realized what it was and tried to get back on schedule, the evenings continued to be uninspiring.

But then I figured out the solution. To be frank it was more of a coincidence than a usage of my grey matter. It happened when I chose the wrong playlist by mistake and had to listen to Bruce Dickinson's rendition of “Brave New World”. Things suddenly began to change. The evening suddenly burst into life. Things started to fall into place.

I was saved. My evenings were saved. It was not long before I fell back to my old practice of listening to the Tamil music Giants. But I will also not forget Iron Maiden which brought me back on track. While ARR and Ilayaraja were my food and water, Iron Maiden was my drug. It was my Alcohol.
